Don’t Sign the Deal
We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them —1 John 5:18 (NIV)

We’ve all had that moment - cornered by a relentless salesperson. Maybe it was a used car lot where someone promised you the “deal of a lifetime,” or a timeshare rep who just wouldn’t take no for an answer. They were persuasive, persistent, and just manipulative enough to make you question your resolve.
That’s exactly how the enemy works.
Satan doesn’t often show up in dramatic fashion. Instead, he slips into our thoughts like a pushy salesman, offering us lies wrapped in truth:
The Holy Spirit is our constant counselor, whispering truth when the enemy’s tactics grow loud. He reminds us who we are, what God’s Word says, and how to walk away from the world’s empty offers. Even better, 1 John 5:18 tells us that the wicked one cannot truly “touch” us—he cannot manipulate or control a child of God who is anchored in Christ.
Just like standing strong against a timeshare rep, we can resist the devil, too. Not by sheer willpower, but by clinging to our Helper, the Holy Spirit.

- “You’ll be happier if you just take this path…”
- “God must be holding out on you…”
- “One compromise isn’t a big deal…”

Reflection
1. Recognizing the Sales Pitch
- What are some “deals” the enemy often tries to sell you?
- Which lies sound almost believable when you’re tired, frustrated, or uncertain?
2. The Spirit’s Voice vs. the Salesman’s
- How does the Holy Spirit speak differently than the enemy? (Hint: no pressure, no fear, no confusion.)
- Can you recall a time when the Spirit clearly helped you walk away from temptation?
3. Keeping Yourself Anchored
- What practices help you “keep yourself” under God’s covering?
- How can you make more space in your day to listen to the Spirit before making decisions?
