The very core of being Christian
The very core of being Christian
(Christian is a verb.)
1) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
2) Love your neighbor as yourself
Our command from Jesus:
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
How does that pertain? What is love? And how do I love my neighbor?
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
How can I test to see if I am filling Jesus’ command?
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Let the Holy Spirit permeate your heart. Let in and feel God work in me - to my core. Continually strive to grow in the depth of who God is and how he is working in me to serve his Kingdom.
Love others test: replace my name with love in 1 Corinthians 4-7.
Eg: Jason is patient, Jason is kind. He does not envy, he does not boast, he is not proud. He does not dishonor others...
If I am truthful with myself, I’m going to find things I’ve been doing well and also gaps I need to work on. Maybe I even need a mentor or band of brothers to help point these out.
